Meander Meadow
Named for the broad, sweeping curves of Floyds Fork in this area, Meander Meadow is located south of Fairmount Road and north of Bardstown Road. The focal point of the Meander Meadow is a wide area of open bottomland surrounded by wooded slopes. The north (Shepperson) area and the Oakland Hills residential development (maintained as deed restricted open space) is currently used for farming. The fields of Meander Meadow could be converted to native plant meadow, sustainable agricultural practices, stormwater detention, or used for more active recreation.
The proposed Park Drive and a spur of the Louisville Loop will wind through Meander Meadow, matching the broad curves of Floyds Fork. In the long-term, the Louisville Loop will cross Bardstown Road to connect to the planned extension of Cooper Chapel Road. Other proposed amenities include excursion trails with connections to Marsh Meadow, and a canoe landing enabling canoeists to use the trail system or access the proposed community park.
A community park is proposed north of the Park Drive, along an existing hedgerow. The park will include passive uses and provide for future potential active uses. A short trail will lead from the park to the water's edge and cross a steep ravine by way of a new scenic vista bridge.
Key environmental improvements include establishing a forested buffer along Floyds Fork, meadow restoration, selective upland reforestation, stream restoration at Old Mans Run, and preservation of the Glade Cress habitat on the upland portions of the site.
The connection to the Bardstown Gateway to the south is made via the Park Drive and excursion trail. The existing farm road on the east side of Floyds Fork will remain in private use to provide access to an adjacent land owner. The Park Drive will wind through the meadow and cross the Fork at the Oakland Hills property.
