The Master Plan Now Complete
In 2008, 21st Century Parks completed The Fork Master Plan. The master plan scope includes 2 major parks, with spaces for community events, picnics and sports. A multiuse recreational trail, composed of miles of hiking trails, 18 miles of the Louisville Loop, and a canoe trail, link these spaces. Major gateways and a scenic park drive make the parks accessible.
In addition, the Master Plan preserves over 80% of the parkland as natural habitat, including 500 acres of new forest, 273 acres of restored meadow, and up to 44 acres of new wetlands. A restored streamside tree buffer will improve water quality and habitat, and help sustain 19 mammal species, 25 reptile and amphibian species, over 40 species of fish, 17 mussel species, 138 birds species , and 450 native plants.
